New Williams Lake Childcare Centre Opens with Support from Taseko
In late August, Taseko and Gibraltar employees joined families, local leaders, as well as the Women’s Contact Society and Kidcare Early Learning Centre to celebrate the grand opening of the second Kidcare daycare facility in Williams Lake, British Columbia.
The celebration was full of energy, with music, arts and crafts, a rainbow tunnel, cookies, a community barbecue, and the unveiling of new “mining toys” for the daycare’s sandboxes – marking the transformation of a former high school shop class into a vibrant childcare space.
The opening of the facility, operated by Women’s Contact Society, comes after Taseko made a $50,000 contribution to support the expansion of childcare services in the area. The donation helped open the daycare and train new staff, as well as equipping the space with furniture, craft supplies and toys.
“The final piece of the puzzle was getting it ready for kids. So, we needed toys and puzzles, and a myriad of other things to make it a comfortable, fully functioning childcare,” said Irene Willsie, Executive Director of the Women’s Contact Society at the opening event. “And that’s what your $50,000 did.”
With demand for childcare spaces continuing to rise across the Cariboo, the support from Taseko is an investment in the community’s future that will improve access to licensed childcare for families in the region. The new Kidcare location now offers 119 childcare spaces. Taseko is proud to support the Women’s Contact Society and Kidcare in expanding their services.
The Women’s Contact Society, a non-profit organization, has served the Williams Lake community for more than 30 years. The Society has operated Kidcare, a charitable, non-profit organization, since 1989 and now provides a total of more than 160 childcare spaces to families in Williams Lake.
Through Taseko’s Beyond Potential Community Investment Program, the Company and Gibraltar proudly support community programs in the Cariboo, with a focus on education, health and wellness, and Indigenous partnerships.
Taseko and Gibraltar employees were thrilled to celebrate the grand opening along with the Cariboo communities the facility serves.
