Taseko Supports Expanded Childcare Spaces in Williams Lake with $50,000 Donation to Local Daycare

Taseko has donated $50,000 to support the expansion of childcare services in Williams Lake BC, helping fund the opening of a second Kidcare location, operated by the Women’s Contact Society.

Taseko’s donation helped facilitate the opening of Kidcare’s second location in Williams Lake this spring, including through the provision of craft supplies, toys, new furniture and staff training, improving access to licensed childcare for families in the region. With demand for childcare spaces continuing to rise in the Cariboo, the support from Taseko is an investment in the community’s future.

“Access to affordable, quality childcare is essential for working families,” said Sean Magee, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Taseko. “We’re proud to support the Women’s Contact Society and Kidcare and their initiative to expand services and create a positive environment for children to grow and thrive.”

The Women’s Contact Society, a non-profit organization, has served the Williams Lake community for more than 30 years. The Society opened its first Kidcare location in 1989. Taseko’s donation will directly support the organization’s ability to serve more families and enhance programming.

“This generous donation from Taseko allowed us to expand and open our second facility, purchase furniture & resources for the facility, train new staff, and most importantly reduce waitlists,” said Irene Willsie, Executive Director of the Women’s Contact Society. “It’s a meaningful contribution that has benefited children and families across our community.”

Kidcare’s second facility officially opened in Williams Lake in May 2025 and will welcome children in a staged approach. In September the facility will open 50 additional spaces, providing a total of 119 childcare spaces.

Taseko owns and operates the Gibraltar copper mine north of Williams Lake, BC and is a long-time supporter of community programs in the Cariboo, with a focus on education, health and wellness, and Indigenous partnerships.
