My Cariboo Now: Gibraltar Mines Donates to Good Food Box Program in Williams Lake

By Pat Matthews

The Women’s Contact Society in Williams Lake was the recent recipient of a donation from Gibraltar Mines.

Last week they were given $3,000 to sponsor families for the Good Food Box Program.

“The Good Food Box Program is a monthly program that we do,” new Executive Director of the Women’s Contact Society, Bobby-Joe Krist said, “with their help we were able to put together more healthy and affordable food right to the families of Williams Lake.”

Manager of Corporate Affairs at Taseko Mines, Ainsley Wooding said they’re grateful for the chance to be a part of something that keeps healthy food on tables in Williams Lake and surrounding area.

“The Good Food Box Program typically costs $15 to get this once a month bag or box, so with the donation that we provided it’s going to offer these boxes or bags to families free of charge for over the coming year.”

Wooding noted that the money came through Taseko’s Beyond Potential Donations and Community Investment program which was established several years ago.

“It supports local grassroots organizations just like the Women’s Contact Society that delivers direct tangible and on the ground support for people in the community. We focus on a number of different programs within Health and Wellness, Education, and other programs that support youth and the Families in Williams Lake and surrounding communities.”

Krist said the Society has had a wait list for food hampers in the Good Food Box Program for quite some time so we figure that this will donate for about a year this wonderful donation from Gibraltar.
