Construction of Florence Copper Project is underway, on-time and on-budget
May 22, 2018Construction of Taseko’s 100% owned Florence Copper Project is well underway and the new in-situ copper recovery facility is on track to produce its first copper cathode before the end of this year.
The Production Test Facility
Since construction of the US$25 million project began in September 2017, all 24 injection, recovery, monitoring, and observation wells have been drilled and completed on the property. In addition, construction of the Solvent Extraction and Electrowinning (SX/EW) Plant where the copper cathode will be produced is advancing on schedule, as you can see in the video below.
Upcoming key milestones will be the completion of the SX/EW plant, coinciding with pre-leaching the deposit in the third quarter and finally, producing first copper in the fourth quarter.
Local Investment, Local Benefit
Florence Copper’s investment has been a welcome increase in employment and economic benefit for the community of Florence and the state of Arizona.
Currently, there are over 80 people working on site most of who reside in Arizona. Shifts run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, representing a payroll of $750,000 per month. These employees and their families directly contribute to the economic strength and well-being of the Town of Florence and other Pinal County communities.
Community Support
In April, we held a supporter appreciation event, to thank our many supporters and to provide an update on the project to local residents. Over 150 people attended the event, including Arizona House Representatives Mark Finchem and David Cook.
